Print Defensive Driving School Fees & Requirements

Driving school may be offered for defendants charged with moving violations, excluding defendants who possess a Commercial Driver’s License. Any defendant wishing to take driving school must apply for and register in person. Upon completion of the class, the defendant’s charge will be dismissed.

Taking the Program

If interested in driving school, please check with the court magistrate before entering a plea on your citation. If you plead guilty, it will be too late to take driving school. If your ticket is with Blountsville, standard fees are $185.00 for the four-hour class. The fee is due in full at the time of registration.

If your ticket was issued by an agency other than the Town of Blountsville, and you have been approved by the issuing court to attend Defensive Driving School, you must register for class in person and you must pay for the defensive driving class at the time of registration. The costs for referral cases is $30.00.

We accept cash or credit/debit for all Defensive Driving classes. There is a 3% service charge for debit/credit transactions.

Eligibility Requirements

If you have a Commercial Driver’s License or a prior conviction of D.U.I. you do not qualify for Defensive Driving School.

The class is available to a defendant with no minor moving traffic violations within the past five years and if the defendant has not previously attended a Defensive Driving Class.

You must possess a valid Alabama Driver’s License to attend the Defensive Driving Class.

If the defendant is charged with Passing a School Bus or Reckless Driving you will need to come to Court on your court date. The Magistrate cannot approve these charges for Defensive Driving Class.

All registration fees must be paid in full before the day of the Defensive Driving Class. We will not be able to take the payment on the day of the class. Classes that have to be rescheduled must be approved 24 hours prior to the start of the class.

If you fail to attend the class after registration is complete, will need to appear in court on the next scheduled court day, which is the 1st or 3rd Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m.
